Importance of Charitable Work

114362659Since our inception five years ago, ALKU has achieved tremendous growth and has accomplished many things to be proud of. It is these successes that have allowed us to give back and make a difference in the community. As marketing manager, I oversee our community outreach and have experienced firsthand the benefits of giving back. These benefits go far beyond the philanthropic values and mission of our company.

It reinforces our internal culture of being a fun, motivated company that enjoys accomplishing great things as a team, it supports the worthy cause of mentoring at-risk youth in our local community throughout Massachusetts, and provides our internal personnel with a sense of accomplishment that goes far beyond their career success.

Of course the goal of any charitable work is to support the chosen cause, but what I have found is that it is what you take out of your charitable work that is just as important, such as incredible amount of team building and camaraderie that our company has generated through this work.

Here is our story.

Over the past two years ALKU was able to raise $50,000 for the Mass Mentoring Partnership, the umbrella organization for youth mentoring programs in Massachusetts. We attached our efforts and resources to raise money and awareness for the worthy cause of mentoring through the vehicle of the Rodman Ride. The Rodman Ride is a 25, 50 or 100 mile bike ride that takes place every September in Foxboro, Mass. The support of our employees has been one of the main contributors to our fundraising success.

Our employees strongly support this cause and enjoy all aspects of being involved. Whether they are involved in hosting or attending fundraising events, calling friends and family for donations or even riding 25 miles in support of mentoring, they do it all willingly and with great joy. ALKU is proud of our efforts and thrilled to see that they have not only have helped to make a difference in the lives of at risk youth, but made their own lives seem more meaningful, productive and full in some small way.

The team camaraderie, social engagements, and new relationships ALKU and its employees have established through this work are unsurpassed. There is no party, contest prize, commission structure, or benefit that could provide our employees with these things, and for that I encourage every company to make an effort to give back.
